“Good Aging in Place” is a concept of elder able to live in their home safely, independently, and comfortably through the early until end of life status. About 90% of Thai elder prefer to live in their home as long as possible. Yet despite the preference to continue to live at the home, the majority of households with elderly residents have not made sufficient preparation especially for assisted living technologies.
Therefore, holistic understanding of culture, society norms and personal context would be necessary. Future research projects might focus more on how to apply design thinking, machine learning and human computer interaction knowledge to develop aging-friendly technology. The content of this topic were assemble from a CMU multidisciplinary team ( physician, physical therapist, technologist) field research study under the ‘Smart Home Improvement for Elderly Project” granted by the Council of University Presidents of Thailand 2018-2019 and the smart pain assessment platform development project “I-PAINA2D”. In addition, with personal experience as health care providers from geriatric related field.
