Araceae or aroid plants perform several unique roles in Thai natural ecosystems, urban landscapes, markets, and home. Thai people have also exploited the benefits of the aroids for many years for food and medicinal purposes. However, expanding urbanization as well as industrialization may invade aroid natural habitats and the knowledge of plant utilization that rooted in Thai culture could be forgotten. This class explains the importance of biodiversity conservation through the lens of plants from this family. It also provides the tips to identify some common Araceae found in Thailand and ways in which people can interact with them including propagating and caring for Araceae plants, designing landscapes and homes for Araceae plants. Finally, traditional uses as medicine and local Thai cooking recipe with the Araceae plants will be demonstrated.
